Grace's Story
Grace Community House was born from love, faith, and a God-given dream.
The vision began with a remarkable young woman named Grace, a 23- year-old with Down Syndrome, and her loving parents, Leslie and John. Like many parents of adults with developmental disabilities, Leslie and John searched for peace of mind. They wanted to know that when they were too old to care for Grace, she would have a safe, loving community where she could live with dignity, purpose, and joy.
As they searched throughout northeast Ohio, they discovered a heartbreaking reality. While there were a few communities that offered this type of living, none had availability for Grace. The uncertainty weighed heavily on their hearts.
Then life took an unexpected turn. Leslie was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Suddenly, the search for Grace’s future became even more worrisome. Their greatest hope was simply to know that Grace would always have a place to call home- a place where she would be loved, supported, and surrounded by a community that would help her thrive.
Their story deeply touched their friend, Michelle. In the early morning hours of Easter Sunday, Michelle experienced a dream unlike any she had ever had. In the dream, she felt God clearly calling her to build what would become Grace Community House. The vision was extremely vivid. God revealed not only the need but also HIS plans for creating a community where adults with Down Syndrome and other intellectual and developmental disabilities could flourish in every aspect of life- physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.
What began as a dream for Grace became a calling for an entire community.
Grace Community House is inspired by Grace and the Grace of God, but it is truly built for a community. It is built for countless families who share the same hopes and fears. It will exist to provide more than housing. It is a place of belonging, purpose, friendship, and lifelong support. Grace Community House will stand as a testament to God’s faithfulness and to the power of one family’s love to inspire a vision that will bless generations to come.
